Jan 12

Yesterday was a fun day. I was one of the only people who didn't have class that day because normally I'll be doing my internship one those days. So I pretty much had the flat to myself. I watched some TV and starting looking at the travel guides that are over here to plan out a route. Rather fortitously today I was asking one of the guys what his plans are for traveling once classes are done, and it turns out we have the same destinations in mind. We both want to spend a bunch of time in Italy and Greece so it looks like we a plan, more or less. But anyways, once people starting getting back there were a couple of guys who wanted to go get some things for a department store called Pimart. Its sort of like a Dayton's or a JC Penny's kinda place. They wanted to go get some new pillows (thanks again Mom and Nancy) and one of the guys needed a new towel. So we took a bus down that way and walked around until we found this place. We were in and out pretty quick. We hopped back on the bus and headed back to the flat. Some of the guys went to eat, but I headed home and sat around for a while. Last night I had a meeting for my internship that was in a building that was at the college near by. This room laytou was the most convoluted I have ever seen. You had to walk around this winding hall to get to the other side of the building. Even though we took a flight of stairs that was probably only about 20 feet from the room, it took us about five or ten minutes to work out where we were going. I say we becuase there is a girl on the trip who is doing an internshipi with me. So I came back from that and when I got back to the flat, there were a bunch of people planning on going to a pub somewhere around Picadally circus for the night. I thought that sounded fun, so I went along. Something changed along the way because we ended up in Camden town. A rather shady part of London. We walked around for a while before I decided to get out of there. Me and three other people eneded up going to a Pub a couple of stops away on the Tube called Ye Olde Miter. This pub was started in 1546. Just a really cool old place. We spent and hour or so there before catching the Tube back home. Checked the email and went to bed.

I must still really be getting over this jet lag becuase I slept until about 1 this morning. It wasn't like I was reallu tired when I went to bed the night before either. I just crashed really hard. I did have kinda a hard time getting to sleep last night for some reason, it probably took me a couple of hours. Oh, well. This isn't a small transitions for me, so I guess it'll just take a little mmore time. Well, after that I got up and went for a run around Hyde Park. Not as windy as yesterday, when they had to shut down some train services and winds where somewher around 70 miles an hour. That felt good again to be getting out and doing that. I got back from that and I needed to get a couple of things from a place not far from here called Boots. Its a Walgreens type place. I grabbed some lunch and picked up a nice journal and came back here. Not much else is going on really. I think I'm going to make it a mellow night and sit around or maybe go to a movie at a theater that's close on the bus. We'll see. Hope you all are well.

The Trip and The First Few Days

So far so good. Once I got to London from the flight, things seemed to settle in pretty well. I went to a Pub with a couple of guys from my room in the flat and watched some football from a day or so before. We grabbe some dinner at a Thai resteraunt that was across the street and got to now each other. We met up with some other people from the trip and talked for a while longer. I headed to bed realively early because at point, I had been up for some where around 40 hours, pretty much straight. I was pretty tired. The next day we had a meeting at the Foundation House. This is the headquarters of the foundation that we're associatted with and where we have class. They went over stuff like living in London, so what to buy and such. They went over the facilities use and maintence and that sort of thing. We went to lunch at this little baguet sandwich shop. It was pretty cheap and pretty good, so I'll probably be eating lunch there quite a bit. After lunch we went out on a walking tour around Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park. That was pretty cool. Its absolutely amazing how many embassies are around here, in fact we live next door to the Dutch embassy. I'd take a picture, but I'm not sure what the police would do if they saw me doing it.

Things are going pretty well for me here. It's taking me a quite a while to get used to time change. I think that it's because we're so much farther north. Since the sun isn't up as much I don't get as much sun light which is screwing up my sleep cycles a little bit. I also haven't been running as much because I got sick before I came over so I didn't run for a week or so before I left. I got a run in today. I found a nice four mile run around the park and that felt really good. So things are looking good here.
